We write from a little way ahead.
Science fiction asks what happens if everything changes. Nearfi asks a smaller, harder question: what happens if one thing changes, and we follow it all the way?
The near future doesn't arrive all at once. It is assembled from default settings, small laws, new habits and things nobody voted on. Run any of them forward ten years and you get a different world. That is our beat.
What we publish
Essays. Long, patient pieces that start somewhere unexpected and end somewhere useful. One idea, followed all the way.
Reviews. Films, series, novels and stories that imagine the next few decades. We score each one twice: once as art, once as prophecy. The second score is the Nearness reading, and it changes as the world catches up.
What we believe
Every present moment is a fork. Nothing broken is permanent; it is only how things were arranged. We look down both branches, because optimism that won't look at the bad one is marketing. Then we pick a side. Read the manifesto.
The Friday dispatch
One email a week. The new essay, the new review, and one small signal from the present that might turn out to be large.
